Field Condition

This MLA studio navigated the US military base at Fort Huachuca in Arizona by indexing and evaluating how the base is connected to territorial/national/planetary complexities. My studio partner and I were initially tasked with investigating this landscape through the invisible infrastructure of electromagnetism. By deconstructing the intersecting electromagnetic influences that occupy multiple scales, altitudes and surfaces we set the stage for a speculative prescribed burning intervention. Fire distorts and manipulates electromagnetic waves. Our burn schedule for the area shows how fire would move through each eco-region represented, the benefits and outcomes of a fire regime as well as possible activations and pauses in flora, fauna, and military movements.
